Reach your dreams, mate.

The artist of the picture, John Hamilton was trying to show us that we should live life to the fullest and pursue or dreams. This can be seen when he uses the darker colors for the background and the cloths, and the lighter colors for his reflection. We can see that he is using the clothing to also show us our chance to rise up. The use of features shows us that he wants us to reach or dreams. He uses the color in the painting to draw out what he thinks is in his society.
Live Life to the Fullest
His features show us that he was happy with his life, and that he wanted to show that with his face. We can that with the frown that he drew on with darker tones in his eyes. His hand position also shows us that he is somewhat experienced with what he was doing. The colors of his features show that he was trying to increase the expression of his features, to show us what he was doing, was his dream. The use of darker tones shows us that he was older and happy with his life.
Reflection of Life Through Material Things
The cloths that he decides to draw himself in, represents his hard work and desire to pursue being an artist. Through his entire life he worked to be one of the better artists, and the clothes show the result of his hard work. Those are the clothes of someone who has a higher ranking within the society. The artist uses this to hopefully make us want to never give up on our dreams. The clothing also reflects the desire of society’s standards.
Contrast of Color
The colors show the light and dark of the social pressure. This can be seen when he decides to use a darker color for the background and a lighter color on himself. The light color is his dreams and desires and the dark color represents society’s pressure on the individual. This is only one of the ways that the artist shows his theme of following your dreams.
Conclusion
To conclude the artist was talking about the theme of dreams, and the work that is needed to reach them. The artist used such brilliant colors and patterns to show this. Using the cloths of the upper class showed us that he tried hard to achieve his dreams. Using the darker colors to also show the social pressure that might also stop our dreams is brilliant. We should follow his example and rise up to where we dream to be.
